Deadmau5

Who better to start our musical journey than electronic music sensation, Deadmau5? Pronounced "dead mouse", he may not have the most appealing stage name but the music he produces is a whole different story. While he has been huge in the electronic music scene for a while now, Deadmau5 is starting to become more of a household name as electronic music grows in popularity.

BOO!
“Ghosts N Stuff.” Ring a bell? Okay, the name of the song might escape your but take a listen.

This award winning song was a collaboration between Deadmau5 and Rob Swire from the band Pendulum. Shortly after its release, “Ghosts N Stuff” climbed its way up the UK singles chart, to the number one spot on the US Billboard Hot Dance Airplay, and into scenes in NBC’s Chuck, motion picture Get Him to the Greek, and various video games. Point is, if you haven’t heard this song you have probably been living under a rock.

For Lack of a Better Sub Header
Proving that he would be more than a one hit wonder, Deadmau5 released his second album, which included “Ghosts N Stuff,” For Lack of a Better Name. While this album did not quite make the top of any charts, it netted Deadmau5 numerous nominations at the International Dance Music Awards:
  • 2010 Best Global DJ
  • 2010 Best Producer
  • 2010 Best Electro Track for "Ghosts 'N' Stuff"
  • 2010 Best Video for "Ghosts 'N' Stuff" (Directed by Colin O'Toole)
  • 2010 Best Progressive/Tech Track for "Strobe"

“Strobe” is one of my favorite songs even though it is much more calm than some of his other songs.

Sneaking into Your House Soon
There is no denying it, Deadmau5 is growing and if you look back at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards you will see him DJing for the entire show with his trademark Mau5head inside his light-up, cube-shaped, stage. He thanked Lady Gaga and David Guetta for helping to incorporate electronic dance music into the mainstream where I have a feeling it is going to stay for a while. He just recently released the album 4x4=12 (mice are notoriously bad at math) which is scurrying around the charts, reaching number two on the Dance/Electronic Albums and peaking at 47 on the Billboard Top 200. Its looking like Deadmau5 won’t be trapped anytime soon and I, for one, wouldn’t have it any other way.
